I made the wind spinner with double knit yarn and wooden beads. It really trials around nice and it took me a whole morning . The last row I did in gold thread attaching the beads on the thread every sixth crochet.

I have made these before as a bunting, but Linda - that is BIG!!

Spiral shape comes automatically when you have done a chain of 41 , you start at the beginning with a different colour and do 3 double crochet in each chain stitch that is what makes it curl do that to the end and start from the beginning again with another colour and do a single crochet in every stitch. Put in you tube how to crochet wind spinners and you can learn from there. Xx
