I crocheted this teddy bear by making up my own pattern. I wanted one where the head was crocheted straight to the body rather than being sewn on later. When babies get hold of one where the head is sewn on later they always seem to abuse it so much that the head starts drooping and you worry it will come off and they will be able to get at the stuffing. So this teddy bear is crocheted top down from head to foot as one piece with the arms, snout and ears and scarf all sewn on later. The scarf is completely sewn on all the way around and the dress is actually just a couple of rows sewn onto the outer loops, Last of all the eyes and nose are embroidered on.

The problem is that I don't think they have a trauma teddy set up here in this city, I'm not sure they know what they are. I was trying to set up a group but I couldn't get the police liason officer to call me back so now i'm going to wait until I have a lot and then disperse them to local charities as needed.
Oh -that's SO sweet!
Health and safety-conscious too!
Now Baby can't pull the head off and eat it.😀
ps I generally just took my Trauma Teddies in a bag down to my local police office.
I just hand them over the counter saying 'Trauma Teddies.' They've always taken them so far...Don't know if Lockdown makes a difference though...
Thanks everyone. I was trying to set up a local trauma teddies group but I couldn't get any of the local services to call me back. My old place for leaving items for charity has closed down. There are quite a few places in town that accept charity items, but each only accepts certain things. So I decided to just make what I like and when I have enough I will go to a couple of places that I know need donations and let them have what they need and rest I will go to the city facebook page and just ask who is in need of what items.
It is so cute much safer idea well done.x
Love the colours
That’s a great idea Sarah. I’ve had that problem with toys I’ve knitted too. loving the colours. x
Thanks Liz
now I look at it in a photo I think I should have made the arms a bit longer 😊
Yes I know exactly what you mean , a very good idea to make head and body as one
