I think you've done a great job and granny square stuff seems really popular right now, I've never been a fan of it but I do keep seeing all kinds of jumpers and clothing, even saw a skirt made in that way. And I think you have used lovely combination of colours. And even if she did only wear it indoors so what. I have to admit to having clothes that I wear indoors all the time because they are bright and colourful and cheer me up but I wouldn't wear them outside. Your mom sounds a bit like my mom😂 My mom never says when she likes something but is very vocal when she doesn't, I changed my hair style and she said why would you do that it looked lovely before... so how come she never told me it looked lovely before then? 😂
