We have log burners and an log/coal Aga so have to light a lot of fires. As this was such a success last year, Iām once again making my own firelighters out of egg boxes, newspaper and candle wax (I use the end bits of burnt down candles).
To make them, I first melt the candle wax by putting the wax in a container and then put the container into a saucepan with hot water. Whilst the candle wax is melting I scrunch up newspaper and put it in the egg boxes quite tightly.
I then poured about a table spoon of melted candle wax over each small section. Once dried (which only takes a few minutes) I cut the box up into its sections.
I then wrapped each cut section in another piece of newspaper and then put them all in a basket ready for lighting the log burner and Aga.
This is good for recycling bits you already have and for saving money on buying firelighters.

This is a great idea but to be fair I haven't seen a newspaper here in about 10 years. There used to be a little street rack where you put your money in and got your paper out just up the street but that has long gone.
