Our new bird feeder is squirrel proof, a resident squirrel tried three times this morning to get the sunflower hearts inside and every time he put his weight on the perch it closed up. The bird feeder is designed on the perch for light weight birds to feed from it. As soon as something heavy like a crow or magpie and a squirrel get on to the perch it closes because of their weight. After watching the squirrel John said oh the poor thing every wild animal has to eat well I said you will now have to buy a squirrel feeder with peanuts in it for the squirrel. The squirrel immediately went over to the vegetable scraps bucket that when full we put on the compost heap . So the little squirrel didn’t go with out his breakfast. 👏😁
It needs filling up by the way right to the top of the see through tube. The birds finish a tube full in a day.
We have had three green finches visit the bird feeder and a lesser spotted woodpecker managed to hang on the bottom of the holder and feed from there.😁
