Hi Ladies
I've decided I want to get back into cross stich. I used to do it about 20 years ago just after I got married, I made a wedding forever friends bears wedding sampler and it's in a frame here. I used to do it a lot with my mum and I have just felt now that I can do it again without feeling upset.
I have been through all my things I do have the 14ct aida and threads but I don't have a hoop anymore, should I get one? What I mean is do you definitely need that to use when you work? I used to use one but I found that sometimes they left a mark on the aida...
I love hanging baskets and have bought a lovely pattern with those on to put in my craft room.
I'd appreciate any help, thanks xo
thanks everyone, I have tried the hoop and like it to help keep it taut
I seldom if ever use a hoop, except for framing, but I know others swear by it.
But I have heard advice to take it out of the hoop after each session, and some old ones I pick up at charity shops sometimes have bias binding wound round them, possibly to prevent marking?
You don’t need one Lyndsey but it keeps the Aida taught . The mark does come out when you iron it, I use for cross stitch but not for embroidery it’s just your own preference
I think Liz is probably the best person to answer this question. I have never done cross stitch but I would have thought that if you have a hoop then it keeps your working area taught so that your stitches are all neat and even, Maybe you could put some thin fabric like quilting cotton over the canvas where it comes into contact with the hoop to stop it getting marked
